Supplier audits

SecureFeed conducts global audits at suppliers and producers of (raw) materials for animal feed. The supplier audit program focuses mainly on suppliers and producers (upstream) of animal feed that fall into the MIDDLE and HIGH risk classifications.

Suppliers and manufacturers of processed products in risk class HIGH shall be audited prior to acceptance of the LPC. This audit shall be repeated at three-yearly intervals. Suppliers of processed products in risk class HIGH must declare all their upstream suppliers to the SecureFeed secretariat before delivery to a participant.

Suppliers with products in the MIDDLE risk class are audited on average once every 6 years. Audits at suppliers with products in the LOW risk class are performed on a random basis. During the above-mentioned audits, the list of upstream suppliers (producers) must be transparently presented to the SecureFeed auditor.
The audit frequency can be adjusted as a result of observations, complaints, calamities, etc.

The audits conducted by SecureFeed focus on those issues that are of importance to SecureFeed, such as verifying the risk profile of the products. The audits conducted by SecureFeed therefore differ in nature from audits conducted in the context of certification.

Assessment framework

The SecureFeed audits are carried out by qualified auditors from participating companies. The audits take place based on a predetermined assessment framework. Based on the assessment framework, the audit team will prepare the audit report. The assessment framework is evaluated annually by SecureFeed, and adjusted if necessary.

Suppliers can request the assessment framework from the secretariat of SecureFeed.
